The guidelines the Governor released were also supported by the American Academy of Pediatrics, and Dr. Chris Peltier who was a part of the press conference when the guidelines were released. "The American Academy of Pediatrics said evidence shows the benefits outweigh the risks from the coronavirus. Children are less likely to become sick from the virus than adults, according to pediatricians. And they said the mental and physical benefits of in-person learning cannot be replaced." The first day of school is August 25, and the current plan is to follow the Board approved district calendar. Ottawa Elementary Kindergarten Screening Ottawa Elementary kindergarten screening is August 5th at Ottawa Elementary. There will be 4 sessions throughout the day - 8:00am, 9:45am, 12:15pm, 2:00pm. In mid July, Parents of incoming kindergarten students will receive notification letting them know which session their child has been assigned to.
